Blind-spot monitor requires a few items. The first is a way to warn the driver of whichever hazardous items may be in the areas not visible to the driver. Usually, these are lights, alert noises or both. The second component that the blind-spot monitor is the detection mechanism.

This is affixed to the car's rear, and at least a radar sensor is usually in place. Acura of Laurel has seen many newer vehicles with a rear camera aiding the blind-spot monitor instead of just the long rear bumper sensor. These vehicles have the most effective blind-spot monitoring systems of any type of vehicle.
