Be sure that you know the weight limits for your SUV, and do not exceed them. Not only is this unsafe, but your fuel efficiency will suffer.
Also for safety reasons, you need to place heavy items near the front and the bottom of the vehicle to keep your center of gravity low. Otherwise, you could struggle to stay in control of your SUV. Pack items tightly enough together so that they do not slide around while you are driving.
You also need to make sure that your visibility is not obstructed. You should be able to see as well as you could if the vehicle were not loaded.
